Fun Facts: The earliest evidence of caramel dates back to the ancient Egyptians who used honey and date palm sap to make a caramel-like syrup. In the 1730s, Jean-Baptiste Rousseau, a French Confectioner, developed the modern caramel recipe and a machine to mass-produce it.
