Size: Default Title

Handmade wood fired lid and ladle rest (Futaoki) by artist Ginny Marsh. A futaoki is used in the Japanese tea ceremony and was inspired by wabi-sabi—finding beauty in imperfection and uniqueness.

Product Details: Futa-Oki literally translates to lid rest. During Japanese tea ceremony, the lid of the hot water vessel is mostly kept there. When not holding the hot water lid, the hishaku (water ladle) is often rested on the futa-oki.

Fun Facts: Traditionally, the material of the futa-oki depends on the tea and ceremony you are having. For example, when making thin tea and not using a wooden stand, a bamboo futa-oki is appropriate. Wabi-sabi teaware reflects materials in the natural world and how they change from season to season and over time.
